Exhibit With Us

Erena Koopu’s Exhibition ‘Ka Waiata Au’ in the Maumahara Gallery, Sept 2023

Exhibit at The Arts Village:

The Arts Village has a dynamic exhibitions program with various artists sharing their work throughout the year. We have four beautiful gallery spaces for practicing artists to exhibit & share their work with our local community.

To exhibit at The Arts Village, interested artists must submit an application to The Arts Village team. While exhibition proposals are accepted year round, our team meets twice a year to evaluate each proposal on a case-by-case basis and allocate exhibition space.

There are costs associated with having an exhibition. Once you have your proposal accepted, The Arts Village can help with your funding application to cover some of these costs. More information is available at our information sessions or by contacting The Arts Village staff directly.

Our gallery spaces:

At The Arts Village, we pride ourselves on our gallery spaces: Each of these spaces are designed to showcase the artwork of our local artists, community groups, and the wider community.

We understand the importance of finding the right exhibition space to showcase your artwork, which is why we advise scheduling an appointment with our team before applying to exhibit to discuss your ideas. Our staff can answer any questions you may have about exhibiting your work. You can contact us via email or phone.

The Mosaic Gallery is named for its glorious mosaic flooring laid by hundreds of volunteers with around 350,000 hand-placed tiles. The Mosaic Gallery is our main and biggest space that offers both wall and floor space along the Mosaic Hallway. It is perfect for a diverse range of artwork including paintings, sculptures, or installations.

The Cottage Gallery is now home to the Sister Cafe and Eatery situated next to the onsite Arts & Crafts shop. The Cottage Gallery is located in an area with shared space for café seating. Sip your coffee and take in the beautiful artwork around you!

The Wallis Gallery, a recently converted former studio space, with a high vaulted ceiling. The Wallis Gallery is an enclosed studio that features plenty of wall and floor space. This gallery has recently been repainted with additional lighting installed.

The Maumahara is our newest gallery space and is a dedication to everyone who has ever participated, volunteered, attended, worked, exhibited, contributed, and supported The Arts Village. Maumahara Gallery is located near our reception area. This space is very unique and has it’s own little personality regards of the mahi that goes in it.

The Arts Village reviews exhibition proposals in line with The Arts Village Strategic Plan. Priority is given to supporting Rotorua-based artists or artist groups who:

  • are in the early stages of their career and have the ability to create quality work and further develop their practice;
  • are more established in terms of their exhibition history and the critical attention they have received, but seek to enliven and enrich their practice as they try out new ideas and develop new techniques; and
  • have not had a similar exhibition at The Arts Village within the last 12 months.
