The Arts Village is a non-profit arts-based community centre.
The Arts Village is a vibrant community organisation with art-based opportunities in Rotorua. We have grown from being run by a small group of volunteers to become an independent, vibrant community organisation with staff, volunteers and user groups running countless projects, exhibitions and community events. Today, The Rotorua Arts Village Trust employ a small team of energetic staff who work alongside volunteers to create a wealth of arts-based opportunities for locals and visitors to visit, make, share and innovate.
Located in the heart of Rotorua, The Arts Village takes every opportunity to work with other organisations in Rotorua. Today we occupy a central place in the artistic community of the city. It is the envy of most other centres in the country, where a permanent, purpose-built arts centre is only an impossible dream. This is something that Rotorua can justifiably be immensely proud of.
The Arts Village is home to a large number of arts and cultural groups who meet on a regular basis. In addition, we have co-op run shop that sells a variety of locally made arts and crafts, an independently run café onsite, and a pottery studio where the Rotorua Potters Group reside. The Arts Village has three art galleries that have new and exciting art exhibitions on display throughout the year.
A QUICK LOOK AT WHATS HAPPENING IN OUR WHARE
At The Arts Village we run a diverse range of events and classes throughout the year, catering to artists and art enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Our bustling calendar of events includes exhibitions, art markets, festivals, floor talks, art networking events, music performances, and community events. We also offer fun art activities the whole whānau can enjoy.
In addition to these events, we run several major events each year that are not to be missed! Our artist residency gives the chosen artists their own space and funds to create art in our studios during the summer. This is a fantastic opportunity for artists to work in a supportive and inspiring environment. The Holiday Arts Academy is another highlight which offers tamariki the chance to try new materials, and create cool art to take home during the school holidays.
Art in the Park is held annually in February and is a must-visit market for art lovers. The event features local artists displaying their works in the beautiful Government Gardens. Our Summer Festival in December is a festive market of local artists, music, and community, bringing people together to enjoy a wonderful day out.
